DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
The College of Science in the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will lead an internationally-recognized research program developing or deploying detectors within the Center for Detectors and have teaching and service responsibilities in an applicable academic department within the College of Science.

THE COLLEGE/ DEPARTMENT:
The Center for Detectors designs, develops, and implements new advanced sensor technologies through partnership with academic researchers, industry engineers, government scientists, and university/college students. Currently, the Center has approximately a dozen funded projects funded by a range of sponsors, including NASA and NSF. The detectors that are being developed in the Center cover an immense range of diverse applications, including astrophysics, biomedical imaging, Earth system science, and inter-planetary space travel. The RIT College of Science is home to five major academic units and plays a vital and central role in contributing to the mission of RIT. The College of Science has a rich portfolio of strong undergraduate and graduate programs, including three of RIT's six Ph.D. programs, and is known nationally and internationally for its innovative research programs. This faculty position will have a primary appointment in a school within the College of Science.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Ph.D. in physics, materials science, engineering, astrophysics, or related fields
• Demonstrate a commitment to research and teaching excellence
• Possess an ability to establish and maintain a research program in developing and/or deploying advanced detectors
• Post-doctoral experience
• Exhibit a commitment to the educational mission of the College of Science, including curricular development
• Being capable of including undergraduate students in research
• Exhibit strong communication skills
• Be legally eligible to work in the United States beginning August, 2013
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences
